Maybe it was the cereal?

Last night was the first time Tyson really ate some of his rice cereal (he usually just spits it out and gets it all over himself) and he slept for TEN hours straight!!! Best night ever! I did everything else the same.... do you think it was the cereal? Come on moms, help me out. Should I be feeding him cereal every night now? He is 5 1/2 months. Over a month ago he was sleeping around 5-8 hours straight, but lately he has been waking up every 3-5 hours hungry at night. Growth spurt? Should I just stick to plain rice cereal? A couple days ago my oldest sister said to me, "Yea, I can tell you are a new mom." I wish she was saying that because she could tell how much I still adore every tiny thing he does.... but I am pretty sure it wasn't. So any pointers or websites or books you can direct me to would be great!

I'm not a mother yet......but I baby sat this 6 month old baby a few weeks ago and his mom told me to feed him rice cereal at night before bed time and he would sleep longer through the night. So in my opinion I think that is what made the difference for you. I haven't read that in any books yet. I hope that helps. Your baby is really cute!

Totally hope it was the cereal and keep going with it! It does tend to fill them up more than just milk. Congrats on a great nights sleep!!!

10 hours that's bloody awesome. They say that it's not true that the rice cereal keeps them fuller longer. You know what I think! They are liars. haha. Yes keep feeding him the cereal, they say by 6 months their stomachs should be mature enough to start solids. Keep on giving him the cereal. He's a growing boy!

Yeah! It's totally supposed to make them sleep through the night. It worked for a little while with Bri, but she's been sleeping pretty much all night for a loong time. However, be careful how much you give him because I found out from the pediatrician that rice cereal and bananas can make babies constipated. Gross, but so sad for them!! babycenter.com is pretty good! Good luck! Enjoy your evenings!

I did say it for the reasons you thought I did, but it also very cute the way you adore everything about him still. I being the TWO kid expert that I am, think the cereal helped him sleep longer. I'm sure you know many other people with more kids and better opinions.

I believe in the cereal thing, regardless of what any book says. We just got back from a trip to Canada and you could pretty much paste our family into all your Waterton photos because we have the same shots. We did the 16 hour drive thing so you were lucky to fly. Tyson is such a cutie.

Stuff his little belly as full of cereal as it can get, and then nurse him or give him a bottle. Put to bed and turn off the baby moniter. Last step is crucial :) That's my advice.
